The Role of Psychometric Testing

The administration and interpretation of psychometric tests requires additional training and experience. Our psychologists provide the following:

Cognitive assessment
Many individuals with psychiatric injury claims state they cannot work because of cognitive difficulties. These include memory deficits, poor concentration and mental fatigue.

There are a number of tests that can determine whether cognitive deficits are present, and their magnitude. These tests provide 'hard' evidence of the level of disability or incapacity.

The test we employ for this purpose is the WAIS which is the gold standard and allows assessment of functioning over a number of areas including attention, memory, judgement and planning.

Malingering assessment
Psychometric tests used in our forensic practice can also detect inconsistencies arising from exaggeration or malingering. Pre-exisiting or factitious disorders can also be determined using these tests.

The test we use for determining malingering is the MMPI. This test has the well-documented ability to detect test taking attitudes such as faking good or faking bad and therefore what the individual's degree of depression, anxiety, stress, worry about physical problems and other symptoms may be.

All test results are interpreted and provided in report format for ease of understanding.
