Dr Julian Parmegiani

Dr Julian Parmegiani graduated with honours in Medicine in 1987 (University of New South Wales). He trained in Psychiatry at the Royal North Shore Hospital, Manly Hospital and the Northside clinic. He became a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 1992.

Dr Parmegiani completed additional training in forensic psychiatry in 1992, through the New South Wales Institute of Psychiatry. Dr Parmegiani worked as a Visiting Medical Officer for the Greater Murray Area Health Service, and Junee Correctional Centre. He began working in private practice in 1992. Dr Parmegiani chaired the committee that developed the Psychiatric Impairment Rating Scale (PIRS) a method used to rate psychiatric impairment in New South Wales, Tasmania, Western Australia and Queensland. The American Medical Association adopted the PIRS in its Guidelines to The Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Sixth Edition, 2008. Dr Parmegiani regularly conducts training sessions on the assessment of psychiatric impairment, through the University of Sydney. He is a former director of the AMA Health Fund, and the Medical Protection Society of New South Wales.
