Dr Kossoff graduated with Honours from the University of New South Wales in 1982. She received the John Kerridge Memorial Prize in Psychiatry for best performance as an undergraduate.
She trained in Psychiatry at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Northside Clinic and Macquarie Hospital, attaining Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, FRANZCP, in 1992. She became a Member of the Royal Australian College of Medical Administrators in 1995.
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, she worked as a Unit Director at Macquarie Hospital from 1992 to 1995, a 180-bed hospital specialising in the treatment of mental illness. She then took up the position of Director of Clinical Services of Macquarie Hospital, providing overall clinical direction of the organisation. In 1997, she was promoted to the position of Executive Director, responsible for the clinical, financial and administrative leadership of Macquarie Hospital.
As Executive Director of Macquarie Hospital, she implemented a number of initiatives, receiving commendations for her results by the Australian Council of Health Care Standards and the NSW Healthy Hospital Awards. She led the Hospital’s Occupational Health & Safety Programme such that the numerical profile scores achieved exceeded benchmark standards in the State throughout the successive years of her role as Executive Director.
Dr Kossoff is currently a Visiting Medical Officer to the Sutherland Hospital and the Mid North Coast Area Health Service. She is a Member of the Forensic section of the RANZCP and a Member of the Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age, RANZCP.
Her experience as Executive Director at Macquarie Hospital between 1997 and 2002 provided her significant experience in the management of complex workplace injuries.
