Dr Reutens graduated in Medicine from the University of Western Australia in 1992. She trained in psychiatry at Prince of Wales hospital and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Psychiatrists in 2001. Dr Reutens was awarded two Special Training Fellowships by the NSW Institute of Psychiatry and completed post-Fellowship training in Neuropsychiatry and Old Age Psychiatry in 2003. She has been active in the Faculty of Old Age Psychiatry as a member of the training committee and past Secretary of the executive committee.
Dr Reutens works as a Visiting Medical Officer with Justice Health and as a Visiting Medical Officer at Bankstown Hospital. She is a conjoint lecturer in the School of Psychiatry at UNSW. She has published in the fields of dementia and neuropsychiatric disease and conducted research into depressive disorders. Dr Reutens is regularly invited to speak at conferences in the fields of depression and legal issues in dementia.
Dr Reutens has experience in civil medico-legal assessments including assessments for the Guardianship Tribunal, for Power of Attorney and Wills, as well as assessments for criminal cases, particularly those involving older or cognitively impaired persons
